Radiological signs of pulmonary congestion do not predict failed spontaneous breathing trial

چکیده
Introduction Both delayed and premature liberation from mechanical ventilation (MV) are associated with increased morbimortality. Positive pressure ventilation exerts beneficial effects in individuals with cardiogenic pulmonary edema; inspiratory fall in intra-thoracic pressure during spontaneous breathing trial (SBT), in its turn, may precipitate cardiac dysfunction through abrupt increase in venous return and in left ventricular afterload.

Usefulness of radiological signs of pulmonary congestion in predicting failed spontaneous breathing trials
Inspiratory fall in intrathoracic pressure during a spontaneous breathing trial (SBT) may precipitate cardiac dysfunction and acute pulmonary edema. We aimed to determine the relationship between radiological signs of pulmonary congestion prior to an SBT and weaning outcomes. This was a post hoc analysis of a prospective cohort study involving patients in an adult medical-surgical ICU. All enro...
متن کاملSpontaneous Breathing Trial a Reliable Method for Weaning in Children
Introduction Mechanical ventilation may be lifesaving intervention,It can be associated with complications,Thus, successful weaning is constitutive. One of the factors which is important in successful weaning is method of weaning. It is shown that weaning is conducted successfully by using Spontaneous Breathing Trial (SBT) through T-piece and pressure support (PS) ventilation. But few studies ...
متن کاملNitroglycerin can facilitate weaning of difficult-to-wean chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients: a prospective interventional non-randomized study
INTRODUCTION Both experimental and clinical data give convincing evidence to acute cardiac dysfunction as the origin or a cofactor of weaning failure in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Therefore, treatment targeting the cardiovascular system might help the heart to tolerate more effectively the critical period of weaning. This study aims to assess the hemodynamic, respirato...

Background and purpose: Despite the high prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, There haven,t been definite curative treatment for the disease and focus of treatment has directed towards pulmonary rehabilitation as an effective non-drug treatments. this study were performed to determine the effect of motivational abdominal breathing device on breathing pattern and dyspnea of chron...
متن کاملA Randomized Clinical Trial to Compare the Criteria of Readiness for Extubation and Daily Spontaneous Breathing Test (SBT) on the Duration of Mechanical Ventilation
Background: Successful weaning of the ventilator is a major challenge, especially in children. This study was conducted to compare the criteria of readiness for extubation and daily spontaneous breathing test (SBT) on the duration of mechanical ventilation and extubation failure rates. Materials and Metho...
